Anju Lama Chughtai
Anju was born in Mumbai of Tibetan ancestry. Lived in Bahrain, London and Kuala Lumpur. In Kuala Lumpur she volunteered with UNHCR in a Myanmar refugee school for three years. Discovered a love for working with children and has been working with special needs children in a school in London since her return. 'I have been involved with raising money for AITYS since 2014. The fact that the charity spends nearly all the money raised for the children in Uttarakhand was what made me want to commit to creating Karam Bhoomi Foundation in the UK.’
Kaizarin Kalifa
Kaizarin run's a jewellery business and has in the past been a member of Shooting Star Children’s hospice for over ten years. Although having never lived in India, Kaizarin has developed deep connection with the country and especially in the Himalayas. She is always amazed by the contented smile of the Indian people no matter what their circumstance. Having two children of her own has brought to the forefront the importance of education and how it brings about an innate pride and confidence in oneself.
'I am driven by my heart and my head to help the children of Uttarakhand in any small way possible to allow them to realise their OWN dreams in their OWN way. Offering support through education empowers each and everyone of the children and this is a gift that lasts a lifetime.’
Gabriela Collins
Gabriela Collins was on a trip to the Himalayas where she was lucky enough to visit one of the schools that ATYS support. It was such a privilege to meet the wonderful children who have literally nothing other than a big smile on their beautiful faces. It was a very humbling experience one which she will never forget.
Gabriela has been running her own successful interior design practice in London for a number of years. She has always been interested in the welfare of the underprivileged, and has supported children in various countries.
Rajiv & Bina Rao
Bina was born in Kamuli, Uganda but has spent most of her life in the UK. Her working career spanned over 40 years in the banking and financial services sectors. Bina spent the last 20 years of her career as Head of Foreign Note Dealing with a leading UK travel bureau.
Rajiv was born in Mumbai, India but he too has spent most of his life in the UK. He studied mechanical engineering as his first degree and then completed his MBA. Rajiv’s working career spanned 40 years in the banking sector where he developed skills in risk management and internal auditing.
Both Bina and Rajiv have witnessed first hand the challenges faced by underprivileged children in India and Africa. In this regard, they are keen to support KBF and its trustees, whose primary aim is to help underprivileged children, by applying their banking, financial services and corporate knowledge and experience to the charity.
